About Dry January 2030
Dry January is a month-long challenge to go without alcohol, run every January since 2013 by the charity Alcohol Change UK. It began as a single dare to a journalist and grew into one of the biggest health campaigns in the English-speaking world, with more than half a million people registering in record years.
Restaurants and supermarkets now build the month around it, with no-alcohol beer, wine and spirit ranges launched in December so the shelves are full on 1 January. January is the driest month of the year in the UK by sales, and the following months stay measurably below trend.
The health case is not about detoxing a healthy liver; it is about habit. Studies of people who took a month off alcohol found better sleep, lower blood pressure and weight loss within weeks, and a large share of participants still drinking less a year later.
