About Nobel Peace Prize Ceremony 2026
Every 10 December the Nobel Peace Prize is awarded in a ceremony at Oslo City Hall, followed by a banquet for around 1,000 guests. The date is the anniversary of Alfred Nobel’s death in 1896, whose will created the prizes.
The Peace Prize is the only one not awarded in Stockholm: Nobel specified a Norwegian committee, and Norway still appoints its five members. The announcement comes earlier, usually in early October, and the gap between announcement and ceremony is when laureates are confirmed, debated and occasionally unable to travel.
The other five prizes — physics, chemistry, medicine, literature and economics — are awarded the same evening in Stockholm’s Konserthuset, with the banquet running at the same time as the Oslo dinner.
